This term, Year 3 have been enjoying reading the first of Andy Shepherd’s books, ‘The Boy who Grew Dragons.’ It tells the story of Tomas who discovers a strange old tree at the bottom of his granddad’s garden, he doesn’t think much of it. But when the funny fruit from the tree hatches a dragon his adventures begin. Flicker – his dragon is great fun but very unpredictable!
Andy Shepherd the award winning author skyped Year 3 and spoke to the children about how she got the ideas for the books and how she goes about writing the stories. She took them on a tour around her writing studio and read her favourite sections of the books before answering some of their questions.
It was really inspiring and the children are keen to keep on reading the books in the series and even start their own journeys as writers!
