On 25th May, Wilbury hosted the second Enfield School’s Partnership ‘Construct With Us’ event.
This event was inspired by the growing need for construction workers in the local area and the hope that, by planting an interest with our students now, they will aspire to join the construction industry in future.
More than 20 construction companies set up activities across the field and playground, and in the Foundation Stage hall ready to demonstrate elements of their jobs to local Primary and Secondary students.
During the day, eight different schools brought over 300 students to try out some of the activities and learn what the construction industry had to offer.
The students were given the opportunity to try on construction jackets and hardhats, ask hundreds of questions, investigate the work that goes on in their local area, stand on a cherry picker, construct a pipe system, grout a tiling display, knock down skittles with an excavator and drive a compactor. They even met the construction site mascots – Ivor and Honor Goodsite!
It was an amazing, exciting and thought-provoking day. Students were positive that they had learnt something new about some less well known careers that exist in the local area, whilst the construction companies felt that it had been a positive way to share the jobs they do and raise awareness.
Watch this space for our construction workers of the future!
