Vision & Values

Children at the heart of all we do!

Our Vision

Wilbury is an inclusive community of learners where everyone has the highest expectations of themselves and others. We value all children equally and want them to grow together to have the knowledge, skills and confidence to meet the challenges of the future. Throughout the school, adults and children forge strong relationships, and that trust enables pupils to take risks and extend their learning. We aim for children to leave Wilbury as happy, confident communicators and resilient and independent learners.

Our Aims

To foster a love of learning and develop enquiring minds To enable all children to overcome barriers and reach their full potential To ensure children value themselves as unique individuals, celebrating diversity and respecting differences To work together as a community to enable all children to develop as responsible and successful global citizens

Our Values

Respect

We show respect to everyone around us, to ourselves and to our school.

Resilience

We are developing the resilience and courage to keep going, try our best and never give up.

Responsibility

We recognise our responsibility for ourselves as individuals and as members of the wider school and global community.

Kindness

Kindness is Wilbury’s overarching value – it guides our thinking and behaviour in everything we do here at Wilbury.

Our values of Kindness, Respect, Resilience and Responsibility and British Values are consistently highlighted across the curriculum and are embedded in all that we do. Every week a child from each department who has demonstrated the values in some way during the week, is chosen to receive the Values Medal.

Our School has children from a wide range of backgrounds, cultures, and religions. Inclusion is key to the ethos of the school, where everyone is valued, whatever our difference. Parents are invited to assemblies throughout the year to celebrate festivals, including, Eid, Christmas, Harvest and Passover.

Running alongside Wilbury’s School Values and the learning within lessons, we also teach the life skills which all children need if they are to be responsible and successful global citizens. These include:

  • Building positive relationships, and working collaboratively
  • Creativity and problem solving
  • Listening and understanding and speaking up with confidence
  • Instilling the highest expectations and striving for continuous growth with the self-belief that they can succeed in the world

Finally, we strongly believe our curriculum is our children’s opportunity and we aim to provide the knowledge, skills and cultural capital to create a level playing field and improve the life chances of all our children.

As a school, for us early intervention is key, and we focus on language development in all its forms with a clear emphasis on vocabulary, oracy/speaking and reading. We use every moment of every day to develop their love and grasp of reading, language and vocabulary because we know if we can teach them to read and communicate with confidence, they will excel and be able to make the most of everything life has to offer them.
