These sessions will showcase Wilbury’s exemplary EYFS practice, with a focus on Reception. Our Reception outcomes, including those for disadvantaged children, are consistently strong. From very low starting points, we matched national GLD in 2023,  and exceeded national in 2024 and 2025. We were graded Outstanding for EYFS in our last Ofsted inspection (2023).

Our distinct approach combines early years best practice (including language rich environments, continuous provision, outdoor learning, teaching through interactions) with a firm emphasis on securing strong foundations in reading, writing and mathematics. Language development sits at the heart of everything we do, underpinned by high quality adult–child interactions.

Through presentations, professional discussion and learning walks, attendees will gain a clear understanding of our successful approach and its practical implementation, with strategies that can be adapted for use in their own schools and settings.

Key takeaways

Practical strategies to support the development and implementation of an effective approach in Reception, including how to:

  • Maximise opportunities for adult-child interactions alongside maintaining a sharp focus on foundational knowledge
  • Develop effective learning environments which support language, learning and development
  • Achieve quality and consistency in provision across classes and year groups
  • Lead and motivate staff – develop a positive culture and keep it going!
