Summer Term

Tate Modern

To enrich their understanding and appreciation of art, Year 2 went to the Tate Modern. Teachers guided them through the galleries highlighting pieces by artists they had studied over the past two years such as Matisse and Picasso. Children were given the opportunity to study works, ask questions and discuss the skills used to make the various masterpieces they encountered. They were given booklets to complete as they travelled around the exhibits and recorded sketches of paintings and sculptures. It was an epic day which fuelled their imaginations. It also presented them with an opportunity to see some of London's most iconic buildings and landmarks.

Autumn Term

Winter Show

Year 2 performed their annual winter show - The Journey Home - to a packed Upper Hall. Parents and carers were kept entertained with songs and a very poignant story about the plight of our planet's endangered species. Year 2 children and staff had been preparing for weeks to ensure a spectacular performance. The children had made head bands to represent the animal (- polar bears, pandas and elephants-) they had researched,  and they also created stunning pictures to display during their performance. In addition, they did some wonderful writing in their literacy lessons based on their class animal. The project showed how passionate the children are about conservation and gave them a broader insight into our world
