Physical Education

At our school, we aim to develop pupils who are physically competent, confident and motivated to lead active, healthy lives.

Our curriculum is underpinned by the National Curriculum for PE which aims to ensure that all pupils:

  • Develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities
  • Are physically active for sustained periods of time
  • Engage in competitive sports and activities
  • Lead healthy, active lives

From the Early Years, pupils develop fundamental movement skills through play and structured activities. As they progress through the school, pupils build on these foundations by learning both how to perform skills and why they are effective, including understanding tactics, techniques and rules.

Our curriculum is carefully sequenced from EYFS to Year 6, enabling pupils to move from developing control, to applying skills in games, and finally to making decisions and performing with confidence in a range of activities.

We provide a broad range of physical experiences, including games, gymnastics, dance, athletics and outdoor adventurous activities, ensuring all pupils can succeed. Pupils are supported to achieve through different strengths, including teamwork, creativity, decision-making and improving their own performance.

Lessons are structured to allow pupils to practise, apply and refine skills over time, supporting progression and confidence.

Assessment is ongoing and observational, allowing teachers to adapt learning and support pupils to make progress over time.

Pupils leave our school with the skills, knowledge and confidence to participate in physical activity and lead healthy, active lives.
