Olympic Celebration

There isn't a day that goes by that I am not aware of the magic that Wilbury creates - and this, again, was at it's peak during our Olympic Celebration.

It has been a year that not only have we owned the school values of Respect, Resilience, Responsibility and Kindness, but we also defined the Olympic motto of Faster, Higher, Stronger too. This has given us extra determination and drive to achieve the very best in all areas of school life.

Each class represented one of the countries taking part in the Olympics. Some children, parents and teachers dressed in colours to reflect their given country. It was stunning to see us all outside together waving flags amongst a sea of smiles from the children.  We were also very fortunate to be joined by over 200 parents and carers to share the party atmosphere. Mrs. Wise thought it was glorious!

The Wilbury Drummers were a particular hit with the parents, as the rhythmic beat set up the celebratory tone we needed. We were lucky with the weather too with the rain clouds by-passing our field to allow us a dry and uninterrupted morning of splendour. Our dance teacher, Emily, delivered an awesome routine with children from Year 1 to Year 5. Our children love to dance and we are so lucky to have someone as inspirational as Emily. Mr. Roberts was equally as heroic with the music. The children sounded great as they valiantly sung 'We are the Champions' and our anthem 'Together', accompanied by our exceptional choirs. (I, however, sounded like a foghorn in a tunnel when I sang 'We are the Champions' - but I did so with a very carefree confidence and a devastating grin!)

It was good to see so many children get their Governor Awards and our Governor, Katie Bonham-Carter, was there to present the certificates. She was thrilled to be a part of such a traditional event. What she found particularly impressive was the amazing sense of community and pride we displayed which highlighted our diversity and tremendous ambition.

Miss. Fergusson was a deserved winner of the egg and spoon relay with the glorious Yellow team. Teams comprised of pupils and teachers and my thanks also goes to Miss. Ali, Miss. Field, Miss. Alpdogan and the children involved who provided us with a race that will go down in the Wilbury Sporting History Books!

In the afternoon, classes continued the celebrating with a slice of cake. Year groups buddied together for some shared reading too, giving an opportunity for our classes to collaborate and enjoy some great storytelling.

Thanks to everyone involved for making it such positive way to bring the school year to a close.

Enjoy the Summer everyone. Please do reflect on our successful year together, and also look forward to more brilliance (and magic) to come.
