Enrichment

Our Enrichment Offer

At Wilbury, we are committed to providing a broad and ambitious enrichment offer that extends learning beyond the classroom and supports every child to thrive. Our programme is carefully designed to ensure that pupils benefit from a wide range of experiences which deepen knowledge, develop character and broaden horizons. Our enrichment offer is closely aligned with our curriculum intent and reflects our school values of Ambition, Respect, Equity, Resilience and Community.

We provide a carefully planned programme of clubs, trips, visitors, events and wider opportunities throughout the year. These experiences are carefully chosen to align with our curriculum intent. Our programme is designed to provide depth and enrichment in meaningful ways, ensuring that pupils can connect classroom learning with real-world experiences leading to strengthened understanding, more confidence and an improved sense of belonging for pupils. Whether in lessons, at lunchtime, after school or through special events, enrichment is designed to ensure that all pupils can access high-quality opportunities. In the past year, children across the school have accessed a variety of visits linked to the arts including visits to museums, art galleries and live music events including the Young Voices concert at the O2. These experiences support creativity, cultural capital and appreciation of the arts.

Our provision for nature, outdoors and adventure includes time outdoors, gardening, sustainability learning and climate education. We are tracking our current curriculum offer closely and are developing new projects, including work linked to our sustainability action plan. Gardening opportunities include a gardening club, access for classes to our edible garden, and whole-school involvement in harvest-time planting and activities.  Our PGL residential and other outdoor trips including workshops at Epping Forest all contribute to pupils’ confidence and well-being.

We have also had a range of visitors in school to enhance our curriculum offer, including History and Science workshops as well as sports specialists and citizenship professionals.

Our club offer has been strengthened in recent years with a developing range of activities offered with careful monitoring of participation to ensure that clubs are well matched to pupils’ interests and needs but are also fairly accessed by all. We have also developed our lunchtime club offer so that more children, including those who cannot stay after school, can access enrichment activities. This is an important part of our commitment to equity, ensuring that participation is not limited by family circumstances or transport arrangements. Clubs include a range of musical or sporting groups as well as gardening, computing, reading, art and many more.

In addition to sporting clubs, all children across the school benefit from a variety of sporting and fitness related activities including coaching from professionals, opportunities for dance performances at local theatres and in school or borough sporting events.

We are proud of our residential provision. Residential experiences provide pupils with unique opportunities to develop independence, teamwork, confidence and resilience, while also creating lasting memories and enriching their personal development.

Our enrichment offer also supports civic engagement and active citizenship. Pupils can take part in leadership opportunities such as buddying and sports leadership, as well as developing their understanding of democracy via our school council elections and voting. Wilbury are regular attendees at the annual local debating competition whilst pupils are also regularly involved in pupil voice activities across the school relating to a variety of different areas. These opportunities help pupils to understand democracy, responsibility and how they can contribute positively to their school and wider community.

Our enrichment offer supports wider life and future skills. This includes opportunities in digital literacy, STEM, enterprise, cooking and financial awareness. Through these experiences, pupils develop the knowledge and skills they need for the next stage of their education and for life beyond school.

Our enrichment offer benefits from the partnerships we have made across the local community and we are constantly looking for new opportunities to enhance the personal development of our pupils. Furthermore, our pupils develop their understanding of responsibility and community via our annual charity events.

Personal development and enrichment are highly valued at Wilbury. We are constantly striving to add to our comprehensive offer whilst also ensuring children’s efforts and achievements in this area are valued and celebrated.
