Opportunity Class
Opportunity Class provides a safe, nurturing and supportive space for children who are experiencing emotional, social and behavioural barriers to learning. Children generally work together in small groups although focussed one to one support is sometimes appropriate.
Some children attend small groups to develop their literacy skills and to gain greater confidence in their abilities. Mrs Campbell, the Teacher in Opportunity Class, and Mrs Antoniou, the Teaching Assistant, also support children in weekly life skills groups. Children are given the opportunity to think about and improve their skills in a number of ways, for example skills of speaking and listening, working and playing co-operatively, building on skills of making and maintaining friendships and finding the best ways to show emotions and to share problems and anxieties.
Mrs Campbell works closely with families who may be experiencing difficulties which are affecting their children’s educational and social development. Mrs Campbell is very happy to meet parents. You are welcome to pop into Opportunity Class during any Open Evening or make yourself known to her via the reception desk if you would like an appointment to speak to her.
