Summer Term
Hertfordshire Zoo
The Reception Class children had a fantastic day out at Hertfordshire Zoo (Paradise Wildlife Park). They saw animals of all sizes, including zebras, white lions, camels, owls, guinea pigs and even snakes! The children were very brave and had their photo taken in front of some rather large dinosaurs!
Green Day
The children wore green to raise money for eco charities and raise awareness of eco issues.
The children had fun spending time building dens, creating bookmarks using natural materials and had a scavenger hunt too!
The children in Reception had very exciting visitors this week!
The fire fighters from Edmonton Green station came to visit us. We enjoyed sitting in the fire engine and asked the fighter fighters some very interesting questions. We wanted to find out more about the very important job they do helping others.
How do you put out a fire if the door is shut? (Alayna)
Why are fire engines red? (Asiyah)
Have you rescued any pets? (Zeyneb)
Why do you use fire engines to put out fires? (Neithan)
Spring Term
Lifecycles
In Reception we have been learning about lifecycles. We had some real eggs in class and watched the chicks hatch. Then we observed the chicks and even held them! We read information books, learned lots of new words, and did lots of talking. We predicted what would happen to the eggs, and did some great writing too. Chicks are amazing!
World Book Day
We had a great day celebrating World Book Day. We loved dressing up as our favourite book characters. The Y6 children came to read stories to us and we even had a special guest reader! We had such a wonderful day.
Autumn Term
Wonderful performances of ‘The Sleepy Shepherd’ by our Reception classes in December! Amazing acting, narrating, music and singing – and SO well attended - full house for both performances! Well done to all involved!
Science Experiments
Linked to our core book Astro Girl, we carried out two experiments. First we made predictions and then we carried out our experiments outside. It was so exciting to watch what happened to our rocket it flew so high in the sky when we added vinegar and soda to our rocket bottle. The coca cola and mentos experiment was so much fun to watch too!
Sculptures
Linked to our focus artist Andrew Goldsworthy we created these wonderful sculptures using natural materials.
Reception children are settling in really well. They are exploring, playing, making friends and showing lots of confidence, concentration, collaboration and independence already!
