Ancient Egypt in the National Archives
What can documents tell us about the process of archaeological digs?
Year 3 attended online workshops with The National Archives where students explored documents relating to the excavation of King Tutankhamun’s tomb. We uncovered the processes that archaeologists such as Howard Carter go through when discovering and excavating a site. We analysed archival photographs, letters and maps, as well as images of 3D models from the Ancient Egypt collection at the British Museum.
Ancient Egyptians
The Altru Drama Company took our children on an exciting journey down the Nile with an engaging and active drama workshop, which brought Ancient Egypt to life!
The achievements of the Ancient Egyptians were explored through creative activities that made key facts and information fun and memorable for children, all while developing their confidence and speaking and listening skills.
The children became farmers, Pharaohs, pyramid builders and even hieroglyphics, as they used role-play, creativity and imagination to learn about the topic.

History
As part of the Year 3 Bronze Age topic, the children worked collaboratively to answer the question, ‘What have archaeologists and historians discovered from the Bronze Age?’
The children investigated the different sources and artefacts kept at The British Museum, before their teachers revealed the different historical interpretations.
They tried to answer the following questions:
1) What is it?
2) What do you think it was used for?
3) Who do you think might have owned or used it?
Autumn
Maths
We are learning about adding and subtracting numbers up to 1000. We used dienes (or base 10) to help us.
Science
In science, we are learning about forces. We did an experiment to get a paper clip out of a cup of water without getting our hands wet. We used a magnet, pencil and string to find different solutions to the problem.
Geography
In Geography we are learning about latitude and longitude. We used Digimaps for Schools, an online mapping program to help us.
We have also been using atlases to help us locate cities using latitude and longitude.
RE
We are learning about how family life and festivals show what matters to Jewish people.
History
We are learning about the Stone Age. It is part of pre-history which means it happened before people wrote things down.
Art
We are learning about early drawings from the Stone Age.
