On Friday 28th June, a group of Year 5 and 6 students were lucky enough to attend EntFest 2019 at the University of Buckingham. EntFest is a festival set up by Peter Jones (of Dragon’s Den fame), that brings together students, entrepreneurs, business leaders, investors and innovators to network and learn about enterprise.
This year we took 18 students – the 12 students who took part in Autumn’s Tycoons competition plus 6 students who will be taking part in the competition next year. Of our two very successful Tycoon teams this year, Decadent Drinks was one of the select few to be shortlisted and only just missed out on a place in the final. Their business plan was assessed at The Shard by a panel of business experts and they were hugely impressed by the team work, problem solving and entrepreneurial skills demonstrated by the team members. With the amazing support of our parents and staff, plus the hard work from our students, the two teams managed to raise over £700 in just 7-weeks of business – an absolutely astonishing achievement for our budding entrepreneurs.
The theme of EntFest 2019 was You Make The Future and our students spent the day exploring the future world of work, considering questions like: What part do they want to play in it? What changes do they want to see? And how can they prepare for their future?
As well as time spent listening to TED talks by successful business people (including Will King, the founder of King of Shaves), discussing how best to look after themselves and buying items from other young entrepreneurs (and eating ice-cream), our students also had time to network and ask some incredibly insightful and intelligent questions.
It was an amazing day and a fantastic opportunity for our students, encouraging them to begin thinking about where they want their lives to go, what they want to do and who they want to be.
