Summer Term

On Wednesday 26th June Year 2 had a visit from Cath Hammond of History Helpers for a Great Fire of London Maps Workshop.

They used historical maps to search for clues as to the start and spread of the Great Fire of London in 1666, which the children have been learning about in History. Miss Hammond was very complimentary about the children and how much they knew saying "Four really good classes who asked lots of good questions. They were clearly really engaged with the topic and referred to their London trip a lot."

Spring Term

On Friday 8th March Year 2 enjoyed an interactive performance of the well known story The Gingerbread Man performed by Liz from Teach it Through Drama. Everyone was involved throughout in various ways but particularly with the famous lines "Run, run as fast as you can. You can't catch me I'm the Gingerbread Man!" This was a lovely way to end the week especially as the day before was World Book Day where everyone had dressed up as a character from a book. A fun week of stories.

Autumn Term

Florence Nightingale

On Tuesday 3rd October Year 2 had visitor for the day - Florence Nightingale, also known as the lady with the lamp. We learnt about how Florence Nightingale organised a group of nurses to help soldiers in the Crimean War, how she introduced good hygiene practices and changed the way hospitals worked forever. It was very interactive, and all the children got to pretend to be Victorians and dress up as either soldiers or nurses. Everyone had a great time. This supported our History topic for this term where we are learning about Mary Seacole, who was another nurse who helped soldiers in the Crimean War.
